This is my epic song! It has taken me nearly 30 years to write.
Written as a thanks to my mother, an outstanding lady, born in 1917, in Genova Italy. She married & had four sons. In the 1950’s she moved with her husband & sons to Johannesburg, South Africa, to build a new life after WWII.
For her 70th birthday her family, now multiplied by grand children, celebrated & I wrote her this song. I called it ‘You’re 70 Today.’ Then I reawakened it with the family & great grand children, BizNonna, by then, as ‘You’re 80 Today’ and ‘You’re 90 Today’ surrounded once again by family, it’s the Italian way.
She eventually passed away at 97 years of age and I finally managed to finish the song, which has now been edited down from around 15 verses.
I guess that a long adventurous life deserves an epic song.
Now it’s just called ‘Mamma’.
